If the reason they run after you is because you're afraid of them, then bite your tongue so they cant smell your adrenaline. That's what I do at least whenever I'm scared of a dog.
The problem is, I don't fear them, there's no freaking reason for them to run after me.
When we hit our lowest point we are open to the greatest change.

I see. Sometimes standing still won't work. But that depends on the dog. If they're just grawling while holding position just keep walking but also keep an eye on it. If it's running after you or blocking your path and snapping at you then that's when it's time to take action. Dogs I don't usually have an issue with it's people who cause most of the issues. The types of people in question are known as gangbangers and crackheads/heavy drug users, these are usually the ones that cause the chaos in my neighborhood. they're sometimes avoidable but if they feel you have something they want and/or just want to collect another body they'll ether ambush you or they'll perform a drive by. They also hide in the shadows so you'll never see them coming if they're on foot. They way to prevent them from coming at you is have a reputation that would make them think twice and don't for any reason go out at night. Even then it's not full proof
Standing still works, because the dog will see you, will smell you and if you don't move, will leave. If it's blocking your path don't go backwards, because it will think that you're scared and will chase you. The homeless dogs are almost wild, in a way (the one for hunting), they think like wolves. First of all, wolves will not even allow a human watching them, and if the human sees them, they will run away. The problem with the wild dogs is that they've been grown with humans, they see humans as threats and friends at the same time, and they're not stable like a trained dog or even a dog that's grown along with humans.

Once again, in my city I don't have to deal with people doing heavy drugs, and mostly not even in the country. There are only a few places with that kind of people, but those places are being watched by cops 24/7 so you won't enter to those places unless you're whiling to buy/sell drugs.
I've dealt with heavy drugs users in Barcelona, they've tried to steal my phone but they were too drugged so I kicked one in the balls and I ran away to the closest police station. The most important issue in Spain now are the terrorism and latino gangs, but I still don't give a fuck because I live in a small city. That people want scandal, like people paying attention to them, so they won't hit my city. I've seen a terrorist in my city being arrested back in 2005, but I still don't give a fuck because he didn't wanted to hit my city, he was a priest linked with Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (you people will know them more like CS_Italy terorrists in CSGO).

Back to the main problem, check the perfume or deodorant thingy, it may lure the dogs.

But that's not always true in every case though, if the dog is territorial and/or abused its gonna attack if you get close or if it sees you as a threat. and you dont have to be moving for the dog to make an irrational decision. I'm not saying to run because it's instinct is to chase anything that runs away. Also i have not wore deodorant since 2011 and I had the issue I had with one dog where I had to act was in 2013. I've even raised an aggressive dog that was abused so I have do experience when it comes to this. Plus what works for you may or may not work for others. I'm also /not/ saying you're wrong I'm saying that in some situations this is what works and in others what you've suggested will work.

Maybe the dogs just want a leg to hump but have to act tough so that way everyone sees them as a being to not be fucked with (XD JK)
