Its not base on the calendar months, muslims have their own calendar, ramadhan each year isnt the same months, its based on the moon. Arabic calendar is very different. Same applies to eid ul adha. We muslims do not have festivals these are our cultural festivals which is feeding the poor. The fast is only a sacrifice we make. Why a specific month, good question as everyone will do it together which is more motivative rather than if everyone chooses their own month it will be different some will keep the fast and some wont and as you can see after each month of ramadhan we have eid. A special day for us where again we feed the poor and our family. A day where its not allowed to fast. And about fasting, anybody can observe a fast any day they want, monday and thursday are the most common days. If you need to know more feel free to use google.
