I'm not quite sure why I got attacked over saying English is the second hardest to learn... Because I got that stat from my ASL (American Sign Language) class. They stated "English as verbal form is moderately difficult to learn, but proper grammar, spelling, and writing is incredibly difficult because English violates it's own rules multiple times. A good example is "I before E"

The rule: It's I before E except after C (As in Wield as opposed to Receive)
The 'exception': Or when sounding like 'ay' as in Neighbor or Weigh...
The rule breakers: Foreign, Counterfeit, Feisty, Caffeinated, weird

Let's not also forget "Kansas" reads as it looks, "Kan-sas" but another US state, Arkansas, is pronounced "Ar-can-saw" and not "ar-can-sas"

Making it even more difficult is regional variants. For example, in the US, the word for how something appears based on reflected light wavelength is "Color" but if you go to the UK, the word suddenly becomes "Colour". Grey, Gray. Armor, Armour.

English is not hard because of how you speak it, it's hard because it was an amalgamation of Latin, Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, and other languages. It's not original and has no true base.

Tornado: Spanish, "tornada" (thunderstorm)
Tsunami: Japanese, "Tsunami" (Big wave)
Absurd: Latin, "Adsurdum" (crazy)
Dominate: Latin, "Domnata" (to control)
