Google's unifying its platform. Since it uses the material design on all its devices, it's also making the shift on web applications. Google tried this in February on their search engine, it's going to give a more streamlined look to all its utilities and services across the devices.
Personally, Material design should be left to the mobiles. It looks shitty on computers, I prefer the traditional classic layouts.
Sometimes reminds me of Microsoft and their fail with Windows 8 xD

But Windows 8.1 was drastically better than 8, but that's a whole different topic ;)

I kinda liked Windows 8.1 and I prefer using Windows 10 (Anniversary update) and it's quite fast and reliable so far.

I don't know why I never really liked Windows 10. They made it too modern, computers should have that essence of manual feeling, that tweaking and playing around. What made Windows different was how it was simple, yet complex. Windows 7 was the pinnacle. But now they're just moving to simple, not knowing most of their users want complex. If people want simple, they'd go for a Mac. I honestly do not like the modern layouts on Windows or Google because of this. They suit the Mac, but not the Windows.

Yes, Windows 8 is earth and Windows 8.1 is sky

@Notan What's your current OS setup?

Windows is just trying to become more practical for it's end users instead of mac, whilst still being practical can be used professionally at the same time without having to switch platforms. Windows is trying to go for this unified sort of human like persona with it's operating system being simple but yet complex that can run a lot more than meets the eye.

I personally don't mind an interface lift or two, it's when they remove / add features that can't be removed that serve no real purpose to me (IE: Cortana) for example, this is when I dislike the direction they're moving towards.

Got 2 laptops;
1. Windows 8.1, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GT 740M, i3 3rd Gen
2. Macbook Air Early 2015

I've used Ubuntu as well, and personally, the only reason I like Windows is its flexibility. Dont snatch that from me microsoft.

Jack of all trades, master of none. It's better to dominate one aspect of the industry than try to take over all at once.
