As I said, I can recommend a SSHD if you want a mix out of SSD and HDD.

To answer your question, having both, your OS and your games on the same HDD/SSD will not contribute to its reduced lifespan and/or failure.

The actual difference will be that of the performance you can get out of it. HDDs are slower and running an OS and games off of it may hinder your performance. I'll recommend going for a spacier SSD than a HDD since it's faster, more reliable due to no moving parts and generally lasts longer.

Every storage device however, will run its course at some point and fail. I'd advise a good backup of things you'd rather not lose.

I know this is old.....but if your still wondering...

buy an SSD for your OS/main applications. Use an HDD for everything else. I've got a 250GB SSD and all it has is my OS and browser on it. I do not need anything else that my HDD cannot easily handle. All my games are on my HDD. A 7200rpm HDD is sufficient enough for good load times on most of my games if not all.
