im neutral for this, what if those guys dont have forums, and this get accepted and they dont know whats happening? so put a warning first like "Do not spam" and then if they continue spamming then auto mute like 10-20 sec's

Spamming is not allowed (there's a rule about it) so they shouldn't flood the chat anyway. "I wasn't aware of this rule" is not an excuse at all.

The way I see it and the way most people see it is that if the same message is posted more than 3 times it's officially spam. So I agree with it being that the 4th time it's posted in 10 seconds the player gets an auto mute (I just put 10 sec as a random time)

Only issue is someone could easily evade this system by doing this

FUCK!
FUCK!
FUCK!
FUCK!!
FUCK!!

And so on. It's not a bad suggestion though. Just you run into issues like that.

This is what i was thinking:
ProNewbie69: SPAM
ProNewbie69: SPAM
ProNewbie69: SPAM
ProNewbie69: SPAM (x2) or ProNewbie69: SPAM (x3) depends how often he will spam the chat, the more often that message will be send in mainchat.

That makes sense but at least with my suggestion we solve one part of the problem. It could also be like; if a player posts more than 3 messages in less than 10 seconds, they get automuted but it won't work fluently imo. It's because some players are fast in typing etc and they might get unfairly muted.

Why would a newbie spam in the first place? It's common sense, flooding the chat is annoying and in most servers - not allowed anyway. And in case they do, they will get muted and then learn from their mistake. They get temporary muted (1-2 minutes) so that shouldn't be an issue at all.

Can be avoided by just looking through each of the strings (messages) that a user inputs (let's say the last 5) and check for similarity between characters.

For example, if more than 20% of the character's in message[0] are still present in message[1] and so on, then it is filtered as a chat flood.

Anyways CX or Tamer or whoever will obviously know how to do this, just saying this so that others know that it can be done if it is viewed as a good fix.

Edit: I still think things are good how they are, since staff members can just mute them.
