Change to moderation on /ignore

Your name: Karuminska
Suggestion headline: Change how reports are handled
Picture: Keep the picture in this
Spoiler: show
Importance of suggestion: 7/10
Why should it be accepted: Throughout the years, staff have handled different reports different ways. One of the more common reports are of course insults. And while I fully understand why staff reply to these with "use /ignore" the problem is that this norm has become a kind of shield for some users. There is a not insignificant amount of users who spam people, use insults, and go off in non-english rants, and staff have always given the same reply: use /ignore.

The issue is, this lack of true moderation on these reports has lead to certain players finding confidence in the ability to break these rules repeatedly, even daily, because they know they won't be punished. While I agree that most things could and should be ignored, I disagree with it being a one size fits all reply. There are simply too many users who break the rules on spam and insults so often that it becomes a severe problem. Two players disagree, two players need to shut up and ignore each other. One players is routinely insulting people to the point 5+ users all feel the need to use /ignore or report them, it's no longer a minor issue, but a case where a user is being toxic above the norm, and the behavior won't change because they know staff won't stop them. When I have to start keeping a list of people to /ignore, then the issue is getting out of hand.

Added to this, the ignore system is easy to avoid. For one, I have to use /ignore every time I log in. If they relog, I have to do it again. I have had multiple users who have seen I have ignored them, who relog to message me again, and they have done this repeatedly. I've also had some make alts purely to harass me in these ways, and it's at the point where I believe the system is broken, and how staff have been handling it is allowing the behavior to continue. Flash just had to handle an account like that on Monday, and it's not the first time it's happened. And I think this lack of overall moderation on the topic plays a large part of why they feel it's an acceptable way to behave.

It’s just a game so just enjoy it as much as you can and don’t take anyone seriously or let them disturb your gameplay.

“Kill them with silence”
