OCZ Vertex 4 256 GB SSD + SanDisk's 16 GB SSD
original clickpad replaced with t450s style touchpad


Until now, for storage i had a 256 GB OCZ Vertex 4 + a SanDisk M.2 SSD of 16 GB. The SanDisk SSD is in perfect shape as of now. However, I've concluded that the Vertex is dead(long story) so I decided to buy a replacement 2.5'' drive, an SSD one. I'm thinking of ordering an Intel Series 540s 240 GB. Would this be a good choice? What I want to do on this laptop is this: do college related things (Computer Science and programming) and play games, mostly 2: League of Legends and San Andreas Multiplayer. To this point, I had both my OS and these 2 games installed on the same drive, the Vertex 4. I'm wondering if this fact contributed to the failure of the Vertex drive. What do you think? When I buy a replacement SSD (Intel Series 540s 240 GB), I thought that it would be a good idea to put the OS (Windows) and all things college-related on it while having the 2 games installed on the M.2 SanDisk SSD. Would this work out good? Please give me your opinions / recommendations.

TL:DR; How should I set up storage to minimize the risk of failure of both drives?

a SSD/better HDD won't make your games faster, just the loading screen times.
A SSD is always a good idea to make your OS on it (or i would even prefer a SSHD)
however, i dont think a ssd will be that worth on a laptop.

Like e.e said, windows on SSD and use HDD otherwise.
Programming doesn't really need to render, it doesn't write to disc a lot. SSD are great if you're a 3d artist or animator. I'd get an HDD instead of an SSD and use the money saved for more ram or better CPU

Faster loading with ssd will save you a lot of nerves while programming (yes, you will, very likely, lose some nerves by time :p). Do not even bother yourself to run, for example, android studio on hdd. Just dont.
As for gaming, fuck, whatever you use...

Go for ssd.

Android Studio runs shit on lower end systems even if you've got an SSD with a lower end system lmao.
Android Studio is a bit of a resource hog - We tried running this at college and we ended up giving up as it was that bad lmfao

TBF, if you've got a decent HDD with games you should be fine - it's not going to be such a change but for general application use such as Office and Windows, go SSD.

That censored eats everything it can. When I fire up android studio, my tv turns off, windows on my car get opened, my dad slips and fall down and my sister's pc shuts down. And....and....a-a-and...my neighbour's fridge turns off.

My questions regarding gaming were: Is it okay to have both games and my OS on the same SSD or is it better to have the games and the OS on separate SSDs? Can games cause my SSD to fail?
