Paganism and Christianity

I have a friend who is very interested in medieval, its culture & religion and similar. And now, he suddenly started hating Christianity because he believes that paganism is the first real religion. The annoying part is that, whenever we pass by some church or anything related to our God & Jesus, he just spits at it. He also dreams about burning churches and destroying Christianity (sounds retarded, right). Anyway, I'd like to ask if here's anyone who knows more about it, has some reliable sources that could help me to learn more about it all?

He says that paganism is 5000+ years old, but then emperor Constantine declared Christianity as a recognized religion without any persecutions for those who will believe in it. Also, he thinks that Christians took over all holidays (especially Christmas & Easter) from Pagans because they were the first ones who celebrated such holidays (births & deaths of their gods). I don't know how much of it is true. However, there are few things that make sense, for example these holidays that we Christians celebrate, much of them are similar to theirs and just like that, first Christians "declared" our God. I forgot what he told me all about it, but it made me think more about it all.

Anyway, it's all fucked up shit and no one will ever have a 100% exact answer or proof, these are all just stories which were told to people from each other but most likely someone changed it once or said fake facts which led to this what we have today.

Anyone who would love to talk about it?

Most people who follow the Norse religion today are neo-nazis and right wing extremists. Take a look:

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qbxp ... racist-456

I'm from a country where we are mostly known for our pagan history (Norway - Norse, vikings, whatever) and to be honest I find it ridiculous that anyone would worship paganism today. If he were to state such things in my country, it would instantly mark him as a right wing extremist as we've had church burning right wing extremists before. I am actually going to say, I am convinced, that he is inspired by this Norwegian neo-nazi:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varg_Vikernes

We also have this in Norway as well:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigrid_(Norway)

I believe they use paganism as an excuse for right wing extremism / or as a cover, I really do not believe all of these people to be actually pagan. I know for a fact that they have been recruiting non-pagan members and it's more about their political agenda rather than a pagan one. There's also a lot of British right wing extremists who follow Odinism, so you can see that paganism and right wing extremism is closely related.

Now I'm not sure what's wrong with your friend (why would he be inspired by neo-nazis?), but unless he's an actual Neo-nazi maybe you should provide him with some of this information, or ask him to do some research himself.

Here are by the way a couple wikipedia articles on what we were taught in school, about Norse paganism coming to an end in Norway:
