Aviation Language

These are just the terms that we will actually be using frequently. For a full list of Aviation Language, refer to this website: http://www.flightsimaviation.com/_gloss ... tion_terms

*barrel roll - doing a complete 360degree roll
deadstick - flying without using the throttle
dirty up - pointing your wings upwards to maintain altitude without engine input
distress - a term to describe that you/your aircraft are having trouble
*ditch - a place where it's safe to land
flare - when the nose of the aircraft is pointed up when landing
lateral - the sides
lift - force that pushes an aircraft up
longitudinal - front to back, and vice versa
*Mayday - a term used to indicate distress
*pitch - when the nose is facing up/down
ramp - a 'camp' for aircrafts
*roll - rolling the aircraft left or right
*taxi - when a plane is moving on the ground
*tower - a term used for support personell
*trim - adjusting the aircraft so it flies smoothly
*yaw - the direction of the aircraft (left/right)

Those with * are the most important terms to be learned in this list

These are the basic formations that we will be using in SAAO
We will teach you how to do these maneouvers ingame.

NOTE: The red plane indicates the Lead

2 planes formations - formations that can be done with less than 4 aircrafts
Column Formation

Line Formation

Echelon Formation


3 planes formations - formations that need at least 3 aircrafts
V Formation


4 planes formation - formations that require at least 4 aircrafts
Finger Four Formation

Combat Box Formation


The squadron leader can alter these formations prior to each flight session.
