What is faith?

Here are quotes from various sources:

“Faith isn't believing without proof – it's trusting without reservation.” William Sloane Coffin

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidience of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1, the Bible.

"In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't." -Blaise Pascal

"For those with faith, no explanation is necessary. For those without, no explanation is possible." –Thomas Aquinas

"The problem with the wise is they are so filled with doubts while the dull are so certain." - Bertrand Russell

"Faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward of this faith is to see what we believe." –Augustine

I like to think that the path to God is like a bridge broken in the middle, if you don't have faith, you'll fall through.

Yup!

Actually, we have a daily devotion time in our class. I think I'm the next one, and this is what I'm going to discuss about.
Hey, I'll use what you said as a reference too, wouldya mind?

When you are sitting on a chair. When you sit on it, you have trust that it will support you and that you will not fall. When the chair is old and cranky and looks like it's about to break, you have doubts. You doubt that it will support your weight or that it will not break. It's also the same for faith.

When you believe in God, you have faith that He will always be there for you. When there are times that your faith is, like the chair, old and cranky, you will have doubts. You will doubt God and His omnipresence. You will doubt that He is with you. But if you keep your faith, you will trust Him and soon you will find all the answers to your questions. Your doubt will be cleared.

This one explains it very well

"In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't." -Blaise Pascal
The greatest lie ever told was that the devil didn't exist.
