Leviticus 26:1

“You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God.





So the ''house'' of God is not the house of God because its full of statues and images crafted in windows.

Anyway, people back in the day used to have a different mindset and perhaps they didn't understand symbolism nor metaphors as well as today. What the Bible really means is don't worship the image/state itself. Today we use those just as symbols but after all we pray to the actual God, not the statue.
