"And the earth have We spread out, and placed therein firm hills, and caused each seemly thing to grow therein,"
The verse (interpretation of the meaning) "And the earth We spread out, and placed therein firm mountains, and caused to grow therein all kinds of things in due proportion" (Qur'an Chapter 15: verse 19) means We spread it out and placed firm mountains therein. This is like the verse in which God says (interpretation of the meaning): "And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers" (Qur'an Chapter 13: verse 3).
There is no contradiction between saying that it is round and saying that it was spread out, because in fact in its totality it is round, but to the one who stands on it and looks at it, it appears flat, as it appears to everyone.
"He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; has enabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels); and has sent down water from the sky." With it have We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others."
"And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out),"
The verse (interpretation of the meaning) "He created the heavens and earth in truth. He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. Unquestionably, He is the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver." (Qur'an Chapter 39: verse 5)
The Arabic word which is translated as "to wrap" in the verse is "Yukawer". This word comes from the same root as the word "Kura" which means "sphere". In Arabic, this word is commonly used as wrapping an object around an sphere thing. A person who knows Arabic can confirm this. This verse makes it very clear for those who've knowledge that Earth is round and not flat. Furthermore, people who say that if Qur'an was the word of God, he could have mentioned these things clearly but little they know that they can't simply understand everything by reading a single verse. You've to read the whole Qur'an to understand all it's meanings. You can't simply understand a book by reading a single paragraph from it obviously.
Also about the sun setting and rising in a specific place:
"Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. .... Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom."
The verse (interpretation of the meaning) "Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water” (Qur'an Chapter 18: verse 86)
It appears to be in the eye of the beholder, the sun sets on one country, but remains up in the sky for another, until it rises from the east on the following morning. So the earth looks flat in every region or part of it, because of its immense size.
This does not contradict its real shape, because we may see a very high mountain, but if we climb it and reach its summit we may find a flat surface there, and find an entire nation living there, and some of the people there may not know anything about the rest of the world, and so on.
And here the Qur'an strongly implies that the sky is solid:
"Then He ordained them seven heavens in two Days and inspired in each heaven its mandate; and We decked the nether heaven with lamps, and rendered it inviolable. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Knower,"
"Who hath created seven heavens in harmony. Thou (Muhammad) canst see no fault in the Beneficent One's creation; then look again: Canst thou see any rifts ?"
This verse implies that there are no holes in heaven. It's impossible for heaven or space to have holes or cracks unless the sky is solid.
"See they not what is before them and behind them, of the sky and the earth? If We wished, We could cause the earth to swallow them up, or cause a piece of the sky to fall upon them. Verily in this is a Sign for every devotee that turns to Allah (in repentance)."
It's also impossible for a piece of the sky to fall down down on a person unless it is solid.
It looks like you don't have enough knowledge of science that's why you're asking this question. Do you think that clouds that forms above are just weightless? Do you think clouds are heavy or light? Maybe you'd say light but Qur'an stated 1400 years ago that clouds were not light at all but instead they could be very heavy. Sounds stupid, right? Let's look into these verse: (interpretation of the meaning)
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy until, when they have carried heavy rain-clouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain therein and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring forth the dead; perhaps you may be reminded. - (Qur'an Chapter 7: verse 57)
It is He who shows you lightening, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates the heavy clouds. - (Qur'an Chapter 13: verse 12)
This verse was taken as a joke centuries back but today modern science tells us that the clouds which forms above could weight up-to millions of pounds and you can google this yourself if you don't believe me. No wonder how could a person 1400 years back could get to know such information without any scientific equipment. So now we know that clouds could weight up-to that much makes it clear that if the one who created all things wants to make a cloud fall on somewhere, it's not a big deal for him.
And also there's a biological error:
"Man should reflect on what he was created from. He is created from spurting fluid, preceding between the backbone and the ribs"
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.
/sulb/ 'backbone' and /tara'ib/ 'ribs', as mentioned in this verse, where the fluid comes forth from between them. In these ideas the commentators mostly try to comment on these two terms referring to man and woman from which the egg and sperm form the fetus.
But, primarily it should be noted that the verse is speaking only about a man's fluid, because 'a drop emitted' belongs to a man not to a woman since that of a woman does not emit.
This is a clear commentary and the meanings of the terms simply conform to what is found in a dictionary. Meanwhile, there may be greater facts hidden in the verse that modern science has not found yet, however, scientists may uncover them in the future. Please note that it's not yet disapproved by science and neither approved. I believe that like other verses were denied before but later approved by science, this one would also go like that. Let's wait for the modern science to uncover things for you as you believe in science so there's nothing else I could ask you to do except wait for science to uncover them in future.

Because from what I see, it refers to the earth as a spread out carpet several times.CXdur wrote:The Qur'an both strongly implies and states that the world is flat.

If Allah is all-knowing, he shouldn't have referred to it the way most people would at the time. In today's time, I have a very hard time believing anyone would describe the earth like this, especially several times without mentioning the fact that it is actually round.

The Qur'an strongly implies that the sky is impetrenable, suggesting flights or rockets can't go through it. It also says that a piece of the sky can drop down on a person. I never said that clouds were weightless and I have no idea how you can dismiss all my arguments by assuming I don't know this.

Secondly, Islam doesn't allows us to preach Islam in the condition which Zakir Naik has. We are not allowed to wear Pant, shirt, waist coats and tie according to Islam, Because it's the non-muslim's wardrobe which we should avoid. Specially those who are preaching. Moreover we should wear clothes which meet with what Prophet PBUH wore.
Anyway, I've never heard this person before, Its the first time this guy's video I watched so I wont say anything much, but CXdur would get his answer in the video, which he asked "where in quran is it written that Earth is round"

StephenKelly wrote:Such a wonderful video of a masked man who you believe more than you believe in yourself. It's really funny to see atheists defending themselves and saying Qur'an has lots of contradictions through this guy while they haven't read anything from Qur'an. I don't understand how people can judge a book with a single verse without reading the chapter or whole book. Let's take an example of a story book. Is it possible for you to understand a story book just by reading a single starting or ending paragraph? The answer is pretty obvious. I'd try my best to explanations all these Quranic statements and will hope that you may look forward reading things yourself instead of browsing stuff on YouTube. One more thing I'd like to mention before I start is that we don't worship Zakir Naik. He's a scholar and we respect his teachings from Qur'an and I don't know about others but I confirm everything myself as soon as I see not like watching his videos and just relying on his sayings without actually looking at translations myself. For you this masked man is right because he's supporting your statement but for me he's simply brainwashing you and nothing else. Whatever I'd write further is all confirmed by certain Arabic users who've known of Arabic language and it's grammar. If you find any mistake, please be sure to point it instead of starting a new argument on that.
Would like an actual opinion from a Muslim on this video since it shows how this guy who you all worship lies about what is stated in the Qur'an to fit his own personal agenda.

Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a lamp and luminous moon. - (Qur'an 25:61)Now he says there's nothing like reflection in this verse and the word "munir" or "noor" means light. If someone who has done research before actually believing him would know that the word "noor" or "munir" is not even used in this verse interestingly instead the word "munira" is used which means shining or luminous. Those with knowledge would certainly understand the meaning of this verse now instead of believing this guy without research.
Meaning of word "shine" or "shining":It is clear now that this guy changed the word of the verse just to justify his opinions about Zakir Naik or Qur'an and to satisfy others.
a quality of brightness produced when light is reflected on something.
And after that He spread the earth. - Qur'an 79:30The foremost scholars of Quranic exegesis mention that “dahaha” in the verse means “spread it out,” or “extended it.” The original lexical meaning of the word is from the meaning of “removing something from one place to another,” which we could understand as “leveling”. (Source: Al-Tabari (Masked man mostly quotes from this), Jami-al-Bayan Tafsir al-Qur’an)
And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all (kullun) in an orbit are floating (yasbahun). - (Qur'an 21:33)The use of the words kullun (all) and yasbahun (float) in the plural (for more than two) indicates that not only the sun and the moon but all the heavenly bodies are floating in their own separate orbits and none of them is fixed or stationary. These are capable of being interpreted in the modern scientific terms in accordance with the present day conceptions of Physics, Biology and Astronomy. Indeed, for us (Muslims) the words of Allah are constant and we can't change them according to modern science inventions or researches because scientific theories can change anytime. Example is Darwins theory which is considered as false by majority of scientists but yet we see people of low knowledge believing in it because it satisfies their belief.
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander. - Qur'an 51:47Now this guy says that we've changed the meaning of the verse by replacing the word "museeuun" to "muwaseeun" but he don't really know or he changed the wording of verse to satisfy his users. In the verse the ending word is "lamuuseeun" whereas "la" means surely and "muuseeun" means "expanders" and the starting is "wa-inna" which means "and Indeed we" makes the meaning of verse "We are surely expander" or "We are surely its expander". I don't know from where this guy got this wrong information or now I doubt he's an arab. Furthermore the word "muuseeun" have several other meanings, as follows: "to expand the sky", "to expand the distance". This proves that this guy is just giving false information and brainwashing those who are already less in knowledge. Again, I advise you to do some research yourself before watching such videos or you'd most likely fell in his trap (or you already are).
